And what’s even cooler is that those sets of stories vary from person to person. That’s why I chose songs that were so different from one another- they all tell a different story from one another. I wanted to convey a deeper way of expressing an emotion or idea to people without using words. The purpose of this was to really coincide with the album title. If I’m not wrong, the titles are simply numbers, no? You named the tracks on Away With Words Part 1 by using Morse code. I didn’t want any song titles which may influence the direction of how people perceived the songs. It’s one of those things where I want to music to speak for itself, 100%. With this release, I wanted to leave even more space for the listener’s imagination to run wild and allow them engage them in a deeper experience.

The same song can be interpreted countless ways between different people. The one thing I love about instrumental music is how unique the experience is for each person that listens to it. īeing an instrumental release, how the title of the album complement the material showcased on it?

Without a guitar in hand my only option is to record an embarrassing vocal translation/explanation of the idea on my iPhone. Other times I’ll just be driving around for example and get this amazing idea for a song or riff in my head. From there I just build other sections with variations etc.

Writing always starts out with me just picking up the guitar and improvising to a backing track or maybe a riff I have laying around. I got snagged with writers block while writing for Part 1. The creative process was a disaster! It wasn’t that bad, however it certainly was a long road. Tell me about the creative process and approach that brought Away With Words Part 1 forward. I guess my previous releases were a little more cohesive genre-wise. This record has the fastest/most difficult song in my catalog as well as a very emotionally infused ballad and a lot in between. What evolution do you feel Away With Words Part 1 represents comparing with your previous releases?įrom a musical aspect it covers a lot of ground.
